[ No matter what point in time he comes from, Castiel will always be a part of their team, a part of their family.
The past couple weeks spent here is proof enough that it's important to stick with the people you know and care about, and Sam can understand being a little behind in the timeline. He's still trying to rectify being a year behind Dean. What else has he missed?
Anyway. ]
Yeah sure
Is this about where you've been the past few days without telling us?
The deaths were gruesome. The creature unstoppable.
Not all who die here come back. There's a chance you disappear. I can't take that chance with either of you. You know neither of you could bear losing the other. Your co-dependency is one of the few constants of your lives.
[ Is he going to mention what it would do to him if either of them died? No... but it can be inferred perhaps, by the fact that other people dying prompted him to bring this up. ]
Hey, you know the same thing applies to you too, right?
I know we're from a different time and you've been here longer so you probably know the lay of the land a little better than we do
But we still worry when you go off on your own like that without warning
[ Sam's not blaming Castiel, of course; he gets it. He really does. But maybe now's a good time to establish some kind of a system that lets everyone else know when someone's going to be gone for a couple days.
This kind of thing reminds him a little too much of when his dad used to disappear for days on end on one of his 'hunting trips'. Hell, it's the thing that started this long journey. ]
[ He's right, of course, and Castiel knows it. He's... not used to being tethered. But he also knows that for Sam and Dean - the latter especially - his tendency to leave and come back on his own terms and without warning tends to be a burden. ]
I'm still getting used to the limitations this dimension places on me. I cannot fly farther than the light reaches, and follow a prayer only to familiar locations. My ability to reach the both of you anytime and anywhere is... not reliable anymore.
I agree. It's off. I don't trust the fact that we're supposedly dead, yet can still die and be revived again, tethered to our lanterns. And the person responsible for all this mistrusts us, and is not available to be questioned.
Dr. Solis. I was confined to a vision of her laboratory last a few months ago. There were calculations for opening multidimensional portals there, proof that she'd been successful, but that some entity took notice and apparently crossed over. There was a printing device there capable of creating empty copies of our lanterns. It was a vision or dreamscape, so I cannot be sure how accurate any of this. I wish to find this laboratory, but Dr. Solis is not an easy person to make contact with.
Meanwhile, reaching places within the forest is extremely dangerous, and before risking you and Dean in particular, I'd prefer to find better ways to help us handle the hostile spirits within.
I'm not sure if releasing us all is the answer here, Sam.
Those portals she opened weren't without risk. What took notice led to the downfall of this world. To attempt to send everyone back might be to risk unleashing these creatures as well.

As you're awake, I have an important matter to discuss.

Kind of had us worried there, Cas

I survived. Not everyone did.

To get everyone out of this place
We're okay Cas, we'll be fine
We've handled worse than some angry spirits remember?
